Spanning five decades in the music industry, the Swedish dansband Lasse Stefanz has specialized in country-inflected sounds. Among the most successful dansbands of their generation, the ensemble achieved mainstream breakthrough in 1982 via the hit single "Oh Julie," then sustained steady popularity by issuing a fresh album annually and frequently reaching the top of the Swedish charts after 2000. The group originated in Kristianstad in 1967 with a lineup that included Olle Jönsson on vocals, Christer Ericsson on guitar, Anders Pettersson handling keyboard and accordion, Lars Sigfridsson on bass, Hans Sigfridsson covering guitar and saxophone, and Gunnar Nilsson on drums.

Their first commercial single, "Kära Rut," appeared in 1970, followed by the album debut Vad Tiden Går in 1974. Although Lasse Stefanz continued putting out roughly one album per year during the rest of the 1970s, widespread recognition arrived only with the 1982 single "Oh Julie" and its matching full-length release. Thereafter the band maintained momentum through an unusually steady output of new recordings. During the 2000s their albums regularly claimed the number-one position on the Swedish albums chart, as demonstrated by Vagabond in 2007, Rallarsväng in 2008, and Truck Stop in 2009. The group sustained that level of success well into its fifth decade, with most releases reaching the summit; the 2015 effort Whiskey Barrel earned gold certification in Sweden. Shortly after the 2015 Greatest Hits compilation, Lasse Stefanz returned with Road Trip in 2016, which again topped the chart. Anders Pettersson, the band's former keyboardist, passed away at age 69 on August 4, 2021, at his residence in Thailand, where he had moved following his retirement from music.
