Flamingokvintetten originated as a Swedish dansband in 1960 when Hasse Carlsson on vocals, Gunnar Karlsson on guitar, Carl-Mårten Nilsson on guitar, Dennis Janebrink on bass, and Bjarne Lundqvist on drums came together in Partille. The group sustained activity across multiple decades, stretching from the 1960s well into the following century, though its commercial height arrived during the middle and later 1970s. A revival followed at the millennium, highlighted by the Top Ten success of Bästa! in 2008. Numerous personnel shifts occurred across the years, yet the configuration that delivered Bästa! consisted of Carlsson, Janebrink, Douglas Möller on guitar, Stefan Kardebratt on keyboards, and Lars Lindholm on drums. The ensemble issued its first long-player, Harrli! Harrlå!, in 1967 and maintained a near-annual release schedule through the mid-1980s before output became sporadic. Peak visibility materialized with Flamingokvintetten 6 in 1975, which topped the Swedish albums chart, and Flamingokvintetten 7 in 1976, which reached number two. Additional Top Ten entries arrived later in the decade, but audience interest fell steeply throughout the 1980s. The band nevertheless persisted with intermittent recordings during the 1980s and 1990s despite a much-reduced following. Renewed traction emerged around the turn of the century as Dacapo charted inside the Top 20 in 2000 and Bästa! advanced even farther in 2008.
