Biography
Ace Young first gained widespread notice as a participant in the fifth season of Fox's American Idol, though he has also built a career as a Broadway performer and contemporary pop vocalist. Born in Denver, Colorado, in 1980, he spent his childhood in Boulder as the youngest of five brothers. Drawn to music early on, he started singing near the age of seven and continued with vocal training through his high-school years. Following graduation, he secured early exposure by singing at Denver Nuggets games and by placing the track "Reason I Live" on the soundtrack for the 2000 feature The Little Vampire. His relocation to California in 2003 opened additional stage and screen opportunities, yet the decisive break arrived when he tried out for American Idol in 2006.
After his Denver audition, Young advanced to the Hollywood round and remained on the program for six weeks. During that period he formed a friendship with fellow contestant Chris Daughtry, later a prominent rock artist, and the pair co-wrote the song "It's Not Over," which appeared on Daughtry's debut album and earned a 2007 Grammy nomination for Best Rock Song. Young began his own recording career under producer Desmond Child, releasing a self-titled album in 2008. Greater visibility, however, came through stage work; he ultimately secured parts in the Broadway revivals of Grease and Hair.
