Born in New Jersey on May 18, 1992, singer-songwriter Adam Melchor grew up surrounded by music enthusiasts, several of whom worked as teachers, and he served as a section leader in the choir at his church in Bergen County. After finishing high school, he pursued classical vocal studies at college, where he also began crafting original material that became a greater focus once he earned his degree. He relocated to Brooklyn, assembled a band, and spent his days and nights composing while performing regularly at local bars and restaurants in hopes of gaining attention. When the group later shifted to Nashville without him, he remained in New York before eventually driving to Los Angeles in search of a more receptive audience. A producer who encountered one of his demos then offered him an early opportunity to work alongside another songwriter.

Melchor launched his recording career in 2017 with the warmly introspective acoustic track “Brook Revisited,” which drew favorable notice, and followed it that same year with the five-song EP The Archer. A series of standalone releases soon followed, including the streaming favorites “Real Estate,” “Joyride,” and “I Choose You,” before the four-track Plan on You EP appeared in 2019. That year also found him touring extensively, including dates alongside British vocalist Dodie Clark and appearances at the South by Southwest Music Conference in Austin, Texas. In 2020 he introduced the Lullaby Hotline, a weekly series of home recordings—both originals and covers—sent directly to fans who texted him, all delivered in a relaxed, soothing manner. The project’s growing appeal led Warner Records to sign him in February 2021.

His first major-label effort, Melchor Lullaby Hotline, Vol. 1, reached listeners in March 2021 and drew from the hotline recordings while showcasing a more refined and exploratory approach. Further singles such as “What a Damn Shame” and “Love Flew Away” surfaced later that year, setting the stage for Here Goes Nothing!, whose 2022 release displayed an even broader range of styles and included the collaboration “Let Me Know When” with Fleet Foxes.
