Adi Dick has established himself as a diligent New Zealand musician and producer through his engagements with multiple bands and a thriving solo trajectory. During his graphic design coursework, he held positions at record shops in Wellington before taking on the roles of singer and guitarist in the blues and roots outfit Stylus 77, later renamed Seven Suns. The band issued its self-titled mini-album through Capitol Records in 2003. In 2005 Dick joined the collaborative Fly My Pretties project assembled by Barnaby Weir of the Black Seeds, contributing to the album Return of Fly My Pretties as well as its supporting tour. That same year he cut the solo EP Noise in Your Stereo in his bedroom to outline the creative course he planned to follow at the Red Bull Music Academy in Seattle. Upon returning to New Zealand he assembled the group Sons of Puha, in which he performed vocals, MPC, and guitar, while also completing the full-length solo album Our Place that Loop Recordings released in 2007. He further joined reggae/jazz band Fat Freddy's Drop for tours as a backing singer and supplied vocal parts to Ishfaq tracks before relocating to London.
