Biography
Nicolas Jaar, an iconoclast within electronic music, issued increasingly abstract and experimental work under his own name even as he quietly built up numerous dance-oriented tracks via the A.A.L. (Against All Logic) alias. Those A.A.L. productions relied on steady house rhythms paired with colorfully warped samples, reconnecting to his techno origins while preserving the boundary-pushing qualities that marked his primary solo releases. Most listeners first encountered the project through the 2018 album that gathered assorted A.A.L. tracks under the plain title 2012 - 2017.
Electronic musician Nicolas Jaar launched his active recording and performing career in the late 2000s, putting out a succession of EPs distinguished by meticulous production and a sharp instinct for dance music. Early in 2020 he issued the two-track single Illusions of Shameless Abundance, which included guest appearances by Lydia Lunch and FKA twigs.
