Biography
Althea Forest and Donna Reid formed the cult reggae vocal duo Althea and Donna, whose self-written track “Uptown Top Ranking” became a massive success and reached the top of the British charts in 1978; since then, countless other reggae recording artists have revisited the song in the studio. Although the majority of the duo’s albums have stayed out of print and remain extremely difficult to obtain, the Caroline label reissued the full-length Uptown Top Ranking in 2001. British trip-hoppers Portishead supplied the song with further exposure in the ’90s after recording their own version in the late-’90s.
