Amanda Perez

In her hometown of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Amanda Perez crossed paths by chance with a talent scout in 2000, which resulted in her signing to the California indie label Powerhouse. Handling her own songwriting, vocals, and production as a multifaceted artist, Perez stepped directly into the studio to oversee her first project. The resulting debut, Where You At?, arrived in 2001. After building momentum in regional markets such as San Antonio, Texas, and Fort Wayne, the album drew wider interest from Virgin, which gave it broader release and promoted the smooth urban soul single "Angel." That crossover success turned Perez into a star. She soon issued the livelier follow-up "I Like It," then closed out 2003 with club performances in select cities. Angel and I Pray appeared in rapid succession, each entering the Top 100 of the Billboard 200.
