Sweden's Amason upheld the supergroup tradition by uniting several of the country's leading musicians from the early 2000s. The resulting sound was sleek indie pop situated between Fleetwood Mac's melancholic soft rock and the meticulous approach of Peter Bjorn and John. The collective's first long-player, Sky City, arrived in 2015 and claimed the Swedish Grammy Award for Album of the Year.

The lineup featured Miike Snow's Pontus Winnberg on keys, Dungen's Gustav Ejstes handling guitar, keys, and vocals, bassist Petter Winnberg, Nils Törnqvist of Little Majorette on drums, and Amanda Bergman of Hajen and Idiot Wind as vocalist. Formed inside the INGRID music collective, the members had already spent years crossing paths on stages and in planning meetings before electing to write and perform together beginning in 2012. Their earliest release was the single "Margins" in early 2013, followed by a self-titled EP issued on INGRID that August.

Sky City reached stores in early 2015 as a co-release on Fairfax and INGRID. It peaked at number 12 in Sweden and later received Album of the Year at the 2016 Grammys. The band continued with the EPs Flygplatsen and California Airport Love; the latter, released in 2016, contained the original song "Airport" together with covers of the Mamas and the Papas' "California Dreamin'" and Foreigner's "I Want to Know What Love Is."
