Biography
Ambrosia Parsley first attracted attention in the early 2000s for her atmospheric vocal style and reflective songwriting while serving as lead singer of the enigmatic Americana trio Shivaree. Born in Southern California, she formed the group in 1997 alongside guitarist Duke McVinnie and keyboardist Danny McGough. Across four albums the band earned widespread critical praise along with modest U.S. sales and built an especially devoted following throughout Europe. Their track “Goodnight Moon” emerged as the most recognizable number, licensed for numerous films and television programs. While Shivaree remained active, Parsley lent her voice to releases by Mocean Worker and Verbena and hosted a weekly Air America broadcast in which she performed the news as songs. After the trio dissolved in 2007 she began recording alone with New York production duo Elegant Too, consisting of Chris Maxwell and Phil Hernandez. The single “Rubble” surfaced in 2010, yet the accompanying album encountered several postponements over the following years. Weeping Cherry, her debut solo album, finally appeared in France through Fargo Records in October 2013 and reached the United States via Barbes Records in April 2015. In late 2017 she joined Holly Miranda and Chris Maxwell for the seasonal collection Catskill Christmas.
