Meiko blends indie pop with coffeehouse folk, placing her rich alto front and center over acoustic guitars, pianos, and inventive instrumentation. A dedicated songwriter from the outset, she grew up in Roberta, Georgia, and first embraced performing by singing in a Southern Baptist congregation. She soon picked up guitar, beginning on her father’s Gibson and later receiving her own instrument as a birthday gift. At eighteen she departed Roberta in search of broader horizons, settling in Los Angeles and establishing a regular presence at the Hotel Café, a key venue for local singer-songwriters.

Her self-titled debut arrived in September 2007. In time every song from the record secured placements on programs such as Grey’s Anatomy, generating notable traction on digital folk charts. Capitalizing on that online momentum, she inked a deal with MySpace Records/DGC in June 2008, prompting a September reissue of the album. After a period of web videos and sustained promotion, she delivered The Bright Side in May 2012.

The 2014 full-length Dear You, issued by Fantasy Records and produced by Jimmy Messer, introduced a darker, bass-driven aesthetic. Fantasy followed with the Lovers & Fighters EP in early 2015; later that October Meiko independently released the live EP Live Songs from the Hotel Cafe, capturing fan favorites alongside the new track “Perfect Fit.” Continuing her independent path, she issued Moving Day in summer 2016; the album climbed to number nine on Billboard’s Heatseekers chart and entered the Top 200. Two years afterward came the covers collection Playing Favorites, offering fresh takes on songs by the Cranberries, Otis Redding, Erykah Badu, Duran Duran, Rick James, and others. In 2019 she returned with her fifth album of original material, In Your Dreams, recorded in Nashville alongside producer Justin Glasco, formerly the drummer for Lone Bellow.
