Emerging in the mid-2010s at the intersection of acoustic folk and introspective singer/songwriter pop, Andrea von Kampen first drew notice through a series of concise releases and a standout submission to NPR’s Tiny Desk Contest. Her debut full-length, Old Country, appeared in 2019, followed two years later by the Fantasy Records release That Spell.

Residing in Lincoln, Nebraska, she issued her opening EP, Another Day, during 2015. A video entry in the 2016 Tiny Desk Contest quickly expanded her reach; NPR Music named her its featured artist of the day within twenty-four hours of airing her rendition of “Let Me Down Easy.” Before the year closed she issued two further EPs, AVK Christmas Project and Desdemona, then recorded a live set for Audiotree in 2017.

For her first album, the Midwest-inspired Old Country, she worked exclusively with musicians from Nebraska. The track “Portland” secured placements on prominent streaming playlists ahead of the early-2019 release, which contained five additional originals, a Bob Dylan cover, and a reading of the traditional piece “Wildwood Flower.” By the time she joined Fantasy Records for her second album she had already shared stages with Tall Heights, Darling West, and Dead Man Winter. That Spell reached listeners in August 2021, shortly after her first appearance at the Newport Folk Festival.
