Biography
Anna B Savage embeds her keenly perceptive and frequently self-examining lyrics inside asymmetrical chamber-rock frameworks whose off-kilter textures heighten her singular, stylized vocal manner. Following the 2015 debut EP that prompted touring invitations from admirers Father John Misty and Jenny Hval, she issued her first full-length album, the William Doyle-produced A Common Turn, in 2021. Her sophomore effort, in|FLUX, arrived in 2023 under Mike Lindsay’s production; the set probed love and loss, pain and pleasure, and pervasive uncertainty through a close, ever-mutating array of instruments. The gentler, warmer You & i are Earth appeared on City Slang in January 2025.
A London-born multi-instrumentalist, Savage cut her initial EP—simply titled EP—with indie singer/songwriter D.M. Stith at the helm and issued it independently on June 1, 2015. Its understated yet visceral songs and her singular alto drew the notice of Father John Misty, then Jenny Hval, both of whom soon added her to their touring lineups. Later that year she documented a June 14 performance with the five-track Live at Café Oto. After completing a master’s degree in music in Dublin in 2020, she signed with City Slang for the more exploratory A Common Turn, released in January 2021 and helmed by William Doyle (fka East India Youth).
For her follow-up, Savage entered the studio with producer Mike Lindsay (Tunng, LUMP) carrying only unfinished material; together they leaned on spontaneous interplay to complete the songs, incorporating woodwinds, an electronic kalimba, and further textures across February 2023’s in|FLUX on City Slang. Rich in lyrical intricacy and contradiction, the album examined the layered realities of human behavior. She also appeared on Lindsay’s 2024 release supershapes, vol. 1.
A tribute to both her adopted home in Ireland and her partner, the more intimate and tender third album You & i are Earth surfaced on City Slang in January 2025. Recorded with producer John “Spud” Murphy (Black Midi, Goat Girl), it included contributions from Lankum’s Cormac MacDiarmada, Anna Mieke, and members of Crash Ensemble.
