Biography
Anne Hathaway's prior acting achievements in films such as Brokeback Mountain, Rachel Getting Married, and The Dark Knight Rises had not prepared audiences for her vocal talents, which surfaced once she landed the part of Fantine in Tom Hooper's 2012 screen adaptation of the blockbuster 1980 musical Les Misérables. Performing as Fantine, she interpreted the show's signature piece "I Dreamed a Dream." In addition to securing the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress, she scored commercial traction with the same track in early 2013, when it held a three-week position on Billboard's Hot 100 and registered on charts in the U.K., Canada, Spain, Ireland, and further territories.
