Biography
A Swiss outfit fronted by a woman and equally drawn to grunge, psych, and garage pop, Annie Taylor emerged toward the close of the 2010s and quickly drew worldwide notice through a handful of early singles plus their debut EP, Not Yours!. The quartet’s first album, Sweet Mortality, followed in 2020.
Formed in 2017, the group comprises singer/guitarist Gini Jungi, bassist Michael Mutter, guitarist Tobias Arn, and drummer Jan Winkler. They took their name from the daring American Annie Taylor, the first woman to survive a barrel ride over Niagara Falls. After issuing a few singles, among them “Partner in Crime” and “Wasted Youth,” the band embarked on an initial European tour that included dates in Italy, France, and Switzerland. Their 2019 EP Not Yours! drew parallels to Warpaint and Hole, leading to a recording contract with the local imprint Taxi Gauche Records, which also released Sweet Mortality the following September.
