Biography
AqME, the French nu-metal quartet, rose from the prominent Team Nowhere collective to rank among the era’s standout hard rock bands. Drawn from the dissolved Neurosyndrom, the group coalesced in Paris during 1999. Its original members were frontman Koma (Thomas Thirrion), guitarist Ben (Benjamin Rubin), bassist Sofi, and drummer ETN (Etienne Sarhtou). Together with Pleymo, Enhancer, and Wünjo, they belonged to the loose affiliation of hip-hop-inflected metal acts that operated under the Team Nowhere umbrella.
Following the well-received and briskly selling six-song demo University of Nowhere, the band issued an expanded edition in mid-2000. Charlotte Poiget assumed bass duties in place of Sofi before the sessions for the official debut album, 2002’s Sombres Efforts. An extensive French tour ensued, yet the musicians did not re-enter the studio until late 2003, when work began on the follow-up, Polaroïds & Pornographie. Their commercial ascent arrived with the 2005 LP La Fin des Temps and its radio hit “Pas Assez Loin.”
