Biography
Ashley Campbell, youngest daughter of country music icon Glen Campbell, first chased an acting path before adopting the banjo in 2008. Already proficient on piano and guitar, she advanced rapidly on the new instrument, which brought an invitation to join her father for shows across Australia and New Zealand in 2009. After Glen received an Alzheimer’s diagnosis later that year, she remained in his band throughout the lengthy farewell trek that concluded in 2012. At the same time she formed the indie folk duo Victoria Ghost with brother Shannon and made occasional appearances with brother Cal’s indie rock band Instant People. A banjo guest spot and video role on Rascal Flatts’ 2012 hit “Banjo” lifted her profile while she kept developing original songs. The first two singles she issued under her own name were both written for her father and placed in the 2014 Glen Campbell documentary I’ll Be Me. The poignant “Remembering” stood out on the soundtrack and displayed Ashley’s confident and warm folk-pop style. By then she had signed a solo deal with Dot Records, a division of Nashville’s Big Machine Label Group. Alongside producer Buddy Cannon she began tracking her debut album for the label.
