Biography
Heidi Newfield had already built recognition as the high-energy lead vocalist for new country trio Trick Pony when she opted to launch a solo career. She made that choice public in November 2006 by declaring her departure from the group. Raised in Heldsburg, CA, Newfield encountered country, blues, and rock during childhood. Armed with those influences, she chased early success at age 13 by heading to Nashville to record a demo. In 1996 she joined Keith Burns and Ira Dean to launch Trick Pony, a band that later scored multiple Top 20 singles and received an ACM Best New Artist Award. After leaving the trio, Newfield entered the studio to record her debut solo album, a project spanning varied moods and styles. Its lead single and opening track, “Johnny and June,” reached the Top 40 on the Billboard Hot Country charts in spring 2008.
