Biography
Emerging from Texas, country-pop artist and songwriter RaeLynn scored her initial country Top 40 placement in 2012, the year she joined the television vocal contest The Voice. Two years afterward she climbed into the Hot Country Songs Top Ten via “God Made Girls.” Her first full-length project, WildHorse, arrived in 2017 and claimed the top slot on the country albums chart while also reaching the Billboard 200’s Top 20. Momentum carried forward into the following decade, marked by her second album Baytown in 2021 and further singles such as 2022’s “I Love My Hometown” plus 2023’s “Broken One.”
Born Racheal Lynn Woodward in Baytown, Texas in 1994, she grew up in a musical household that included brother Jake, a member of the Grammy-nominated group Leeland. Church singing gave way to country music once she turned eleven, and by her mid-teens she had resolved to pursue a professional path, graduating high school ahead of schedule to audition for season two of The Voice in 2012. Performing under the mononym RaeLynn, she joined Blake Shelton’s team and advanced to the quarterfinals with interpretations of material by Tom Petty, Maroon 5, and the Pistol Annies. The visibility translated into publishing and recording contracts with Dr. Luke’s Prescription Songs and Republic Nashville.
Her debut single “Boyfriend,” issued the same year, peaked at number 32 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart. Mid-2014 brought the follow-up “God Made Girls,” which rose to number seven on that tally; both tracks later surfaced on the Me EP released by Valory Music Co. under the Big Machine Label Group in early 2015. The EP itself entered the country Top Ten and reached number 49 on the Billboard 200. After completing her debut album, RaeLynn parted ways with Valory in 2016 and aligned with Warner’s Nashville division.
Warner next issued WildHorse in March 2017 following opening slots on Blake Shelton’s tour; the set topped the country albums chart and landed at number 20 on the Billboard 200. A brief foray into polished pop surfaced with the standalone track “Festival” in early 2018 before she returned to the country Top 40 that March via “Queens Don’t.” Valory then compiled Origins for release that September. European dates supporting Maren Morris occupied mid-2019, after which RaeLynn joined Round Here Records, the imprint started by Florida Georgia Line’s Tyler Hubbard and Brian Kelley. “Bra Off” appeared on the new label late that year, followed by “Keep Up” in 2020, both of which featured on the 2021 studio album Baytown. Subsequent standalone releases included “Raisin’ Me a Country Girl” and the streaming success “I Love My Hometown.” In early 2023 she contributed the title song to the trafficking-awareness documentary It’s Happening Right Here and issued the single “Broken One.”
