Growing up as the oldest of six siblings in Shueyville, Iowa, Hailey Whitters developed an early pull toward singing despite her family’s lack of musical background. Exposure to ’90s country radio first drew her to artists such as Trisha Yearwood and the Dixie Chicks, after which she explored classic country alongside Americana figures including John Prine and Gillian Welch, influences that also shaped her songwriting. She relocated to Nashville in her late teens, enrolled at Belmont University, took on various jobs, and spent years refining her material through persistent writing.

Her first recording contract arrived with Carnival in 2012, leading three years later to the release of her debut album, Black Sheep. Momentum built over the following period as Martina McBride, Alan Jackson, and Little Big Town cut several of her compositions. Widespread attention surfaced in early 2019 with the low-key acoustic single “Ten Year Town,” whose theme of persistence paved the way for the subsequent track “The Days.” Both songs anchored her sophomore album, The Dream, issued in February 2020. Additional collaborations that year included the joint single “Fillin’ My Cup” with Little Big Town and “How to Break a Heart,” recorded with Lori McKenna and Hillary Lindsey; those two tracks appeared on the 2021 expanded edition Living the Dream.

Whitters returned in 2022 with her third studio album, Raised, issued on Big Loud Records. The project reached number 18 on Billboard’s Heatseekers chart while reconnecting with her Iowa background through co-writers such as Brandy Clark, Nicolle Galyon, Hillary Lindsey, and Lori McKenna. Two holiday singles, “New Baby for Christmas” and “Meet Me Under the Mistletoe,” closed the year, followed by the 2023 EP I’m in Love. In 2025 she previewed her fourth album with the single “Casseroles,” a reflective meditation on loss and grief.
