Brooke Eden

A two-time contestant on American Idol, Brooke Eden ultimately charted an independent course as a country-pop artist outside major-label structures. Her initial foray onto the charts came in 2015 after she inked a deal with the Red Bow imprint under Broken Bow Records and issued the single "Daddy's Money," which preceded the EP Welcome to the Weekend; both showcased bright, tuneful material squarely aligned with contemporary country conventions. Over subsequent years Eden amplified her affinity for catchy refrains, yielding the glossy, pop-inflected 2021 releases "No Shade" and "Sunroof," which drew from her public acknowledgment of her sexuality. The EP Choosing You followed in 2022.

Born Brooke Helvie in West Palm Beach, Florida, in 1989, Eden grew up in a home where music held steady prominence. Her father, a carpenter by trade, also performed drums with a regional country ensemble during off hours. She frequently accompanied him to gigs, eventually joining the band as a vocalist. By her early teenage years she had honed considerable vocal ability, appearing at area festivals and serving as an opener for acts including Alan Jackson and Brooks & Dunn. She also shared frequent stages with high-school classmate Cassadee Pope, who later built her own notable career. In 2008 Eden tried out for American Idol, receiving approval from Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul, and Randy Jackson. Broadcast footage highlighted and teased her title as Miss South Florida; although she advanced to Hollywood week, she was eliminated after the opening day and never reached the semifinals. She pressed forward, completing a marketing degree at the University of Florida before moving to Nashville. There she became a fixture at Tootsie's Orchid Lounge, a storied venue for emerging artists, while returning periodically to Florida for compensated performances.

In 2014 Eden put out a self-titled EP comprising five tracks, then released the single "American Dreamin'," which gained significant traction on satellite radio. The following year she joined Red Bow Records, part of BBR Music Group, whose roster included Jason Aldean, Dustin Lynch, and Thompson Square. Her debut Red Bow single, "Daddy's Money," arrived in December 2015 and paid tribute to her working-class roots alongside her resolve to forge an independent path; it reached number 50 on Billboard's Country Airplay chart. The Welcome to the Weekend EP appeared in 2016, succeeded in 2017 by "Act Like You Don't," which climbed to number 49 on Country Airplay.

A relatively low-profile stretch followed, punctuated by a 2019 support slot on Garth Brooks's tour. After four years without fresh material, Eden disclosed her romantic partnership with Hilary Hoover, who had served as promotions director at Red Bow when they met. She honored the relationship through the early-2021 singles "No Shade" and "Sunroof." The 2022 single "Left You for Me" served as the cornerstone of the EP Choosing You.
