The Helm brothers helm this ensemble of shadowy disposition, Bret contributing vocals and a portion of the instrumentation while Bart oversees the balance of duties. In the latter portion of the 1990s the pair issued an opening brace of EPs and simultaneously grew their audience through repeated live dates and co-headlining runs alongside veteran goth and darkwave outfits such as Lycia and the reunited Gene Loves Jezebel. The duo affixed its signature to a Projekt Records contract on 1 January 2000 and, later that July, unveiled the completed self-titled debut.
