Blending Spanish power metal with folk, Latin, and prog influences, the Asturias-based outfit Avalanch has maintained a steady presence on the domestic rock circuit since the early '90s. The project began life as Speed Demons, with core members Juan Lozano on vocals and Alberto Ardines on drums, before the addition of guitarist Alberto Rionda, bassist Francisco Fidalgo, and singer Victor Garcia prompted a 1993 name change to Avalanch. The band issued its debut album La Llama Eterna in 1997 and followed it two years later with Llanto de un Héroe, after which Garcia and Ardines were removed once the remaining members learned of their parallel songwriting and recording activities under the Warcry moniker. Four further studio albums appeared throughout the 2000s despite repeated personnel shifts, among them the critically acclaimed El Angel Caido, and the group ventured into English-language territory for the first time with the 2011 release Malefic Time: Apocalypse.
