Multi-instrumentalist and composer Axel Krygier entered the world in Buenos Aires in 1969 and first sharpened his abilities on saxophone while sharing stages with Kevin Johansen in Instruccion Civica. Although that horn served as his starting point, he soon commanded a broad range of instruments that included piano and flute. He put this range on display at eighteen by purchasing his initial multi-track recorder, which let him lay down original pieces entirely on his own without relying on other players. From the opening years of the 1990s through the middle of the decade he performed with La Portuaria, all the while concentrating on the creation of fresh material. He left the group in 1996 and turned his full attention to a solo path. That focus produced results in 1999 with the appearance of his first independent album, Echale Semilla, released on Los Anos Luz and carried to European listeners by HiTop Records. Several publications hailed the record as “revelation of the year.” Although he had already written numerous film scores and supplied music for dance ensembles over the preceding years, those works reached album form only with the 2003 release Secreto y Malibú. After an extended period in Europe he resettled in Buenos Aires in 2003 and assembled Sexteto Irreal with longtime associates Fernando Sanalea, Alejandro Terán, and Manuel Schaller; the jazz-argentino improvisational ensemble soon won widespread recognition across Latin America and Europe. Krygier renewed his solo output in 2007 through Zorzal, his third collection of original material, again recorded for Los Anos Luz and licensed for European distribution by HiTop Records.
