Biography
Operating continuously from 1924 onward, Banda de Pífanos de Caruaru has specialized in the traditional repertoire associated with this ensemble type, which features multiple flute-like instruments paired with zabumba and triângulo percussion. Manoel Clarindo Biano and Benedito Clarindo Biano established the group, which issued its debut recording Zabumba Caruaru in 1972 during an initial journey to Rio de Janeiro for live appearances. Through 1999 the ensemble had produced seven additional albums while maintaining a steady schedule of regional performances.
