Paul Robinson initially adopted the alias Barry Boom to conceal his behind-the-scenes work in music. Among his contributions were co-writing and producing the first album from Maxi Priest, as well as the pioneering single ‘Mi God Mi King’ by Phillip Papa Levi. Membership in the promising group One Blood alongside relatives came to an end with the passing of his sibling Errol, who performed in the band as well. A short stint alongside Sly And Robbie preceded Robinson's decision to launch a solo path as Barry Boom, an identity he had earlier reserved solely for production roles. The year 1989 marked his entry into recording for Fine Style, a sub-label under Fashion Records, where he released several successful tracks such as the top reggae singles ‘Making Love’ and ‘Number One Girl’ along with ‘Hurry Over’. His first full-length release blended intimate romantic themes with broader social themes atop subtle, earthy rhythms in a refined and steady presentation. Aspiring still toward widespread recognition matching his abilities, Robinson rejoined forces with Fashion in 1994.
