Among the eclectic roster assembled by the British imprint Concrete—which also encompasses France's Aleem, New York's Crooklyn Clan, and London's Dub Pistols—the enigmatic Dutch pair Basco treads parallel terrain, reshaping acid breakbeats with intermittent nods to trip-hop. After launching their career via a pair of singles on Holland's Psst Records, the duo inked a distribution agreement with Concrete to release their third single, "The Beat Is Over." That track surfaced on the third installment of The Trip-Hop Test compilation series, which in turn secured Basco a U.S. arrangement via Sm:)e. Early 1997 saw the arrival of their first EP, Nuff Beats. The project has additionally issued material under the aliases Klatsch! and the Wise Men.
