Biography
Formed in 1990 and based in Augsburg, Germany, the Bayerische Kammerphilharmonie maintains a wide-ranging repertoire that spans early music and contemporary compositions. In addition to its yearly concert series, the ensemble appears regularly at German festivals such as the Rheingau Musik Festival, Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, and Munich Klaviersommer, while also participating in French events, including a residency at the Festival l´Été Musical Dans la Vallée du Lot. Tours have taken the orchestra to Switzerland, Cyprus, Poland, and the Czech Republic. Collaborations have involved artists including Martha Argerich, Christopher Hogwood, Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, Mischa Maisky, Mario Venzago, Julia Fischer, Michel Plasson, Mstislav Rostropovich, Dave Brubeck, Bobby McFerrin, and Chick Corea. Works by contemporary composers such as Malin Bång, Richard Dünser, Juan José Chuquisengo, Alexander Rosenblatt, Manuela Kerer, and Moritz Eggert have received their premieres from the chamber orchestra. In 1996 it received the Advancement Award for Music from the Society for Culture Promotion of the European Economic Circle. The album Mozart in Paris, made with Reinhard Goebel conducting and supported by the cultural office of the city of Augsburg, earned the Diapason d’Or in February 2008. Goebel was appointed the orchestra’s first guest conductor in 2009. The Bayerische Kammerphilharmonie has recorded for Oehms Classics and Sony Classical, among other labels.
