Emerging from Louisville, Kentucky, Bendigo Fletcher fuse folk’s organic textures with the tuneful leanings of indie rock, yielding tracks that feel simultaneously ethereal and rooted. Fronted by Ryan Anderson, who handles vocals, guitar, and songwriting duties, the five-piece outfit delivers trippy Americana that shifts between playful wit and heartfelt conviction according to each track’s mood, while Anderson’s singing carries an emotional directness that matches the music’s intensity. The band first gained notice through the 2018 EP Consensual Wisdom and the 2019 release Memory Fever, then reached a wider audience with their 2021 debut album Fits of Laughter, which served as their initial major-label outing and their first project with an external producer.

Anderson launched Bendigo Fletcher in 2015 as a solo home-recording endeavor, handling every instrument via overdubs before recruiting additional players for live shows. The seven-song Consensual Wisdom appeared on Soul Step Records in multiple distinctive vinyl pressings and was primarily tracked by Anderson alone; soon afterward the lineup expanded into a complete ensemble with Andrew Shupert on lead guitar, Evan Wagner covering keyboards, guitar, percussion, and backing vocals, Conner Powell on bass, and Chris Weis on drums. Growing local buzz and outside word of mouth led to a second self-released EP, Memory Fever, again issued in limited vinyl editions featuring unusual color combinations. Elektra Records then signed the group, pairing them with Ken Coomer—formerly of Uncle Tupelo and Wilco—to produce their first full-length album at his Nashville studio. The sessions wrapped in nine days, and Elektra released Fits of Laughter in August 2021.
