Biography
Arnaud Rebotini from Paris and Ivan Smagghe, head of the Kill the DJ label, formed Black Strobe to merge traces of acid techno, death disco, industrial, and neo-trance into their own sonic identity. After both had worked in the Rough Trade dance section, the act placed their first recording on the third volume of the Sourcelab compilations in 1996, delivering the club anthem "Paris Acid City." Several tracks they produced surfaced across multiple compilations, and a run of 12" singles appeared on the Output imprint between 2000 and 2004. Revered names from the indie electronic scene, among them Bloc Party and Alter Ego, received remixes from the group, which also applied its skills to synth pop juggernauts Depeche Mode and EBM pioneers Nitzer Ebb. A collection of that remix work is due from the duo in October 2006, with a full-length album scheduled to follow on Beggars Banquet in February 2007.
