Zombie Nation emerged as an enigmatic electronic music project featuring two Munich-based DJs operating under the monikers Splank and Mooner. Initially inking a deal with International Deejay Gigolo, the imprint run by DJ Hell, the pair subsequently transferred to Data, a subsidiary of Ministry of Sound. Throughout 1999 and 2000, the act put out multiple remixes of their composition "Kernkraft 400". Following Mooner's departure around 2000, Splank reverted to his legal name, Florian Senfter. Under the alias John Starlight, Senfter put forth the single "Blood Angels" in 2001, only to resume activities as Zombie Nation two years later via the full-length Absorber. Additional John Starlight releases continued across 2004 and 2005, culminating in 2006 with Zombie Nation's Black Toys album and its popular "Booster" track.
