Biography
Born on the Isle of Skye in Scotland, this musician served as a founding member of Runrig across two distinct periods and transitioned seamlessly from playing the accordion to the keyboards. His independent recordings feature atmospheric compositions with a strong soundtrack orientation. The cassette Celtology marked his first solo outing in 1984. He collaborated with Arthur Cormack, Shona MacDonald and Cailean MacLean four years afterward on Skye: The Island, which paid tribute to the music and songs native to the Isle of Skye. Beneath The Beret from 1990, mostly written by himself, featured ‘Kate Martin’s Waltz’ that later became a staple among traditional players as a contemporary classic. Douglas became part of the Gaelic ensemble Mac-talla in 1993 alongside Arthur Cormack, Eilidh MacKenzie, Alison Kinnaird and Christine Primrose. The five musicians finished ... Mairidh Gaol Is Ceol in the year that followed. A Summer In Skye came next as his solo effort in 1996. He took part in composing and tracking Cliar’s remarkable Lasair Dhè project during 2001. Released via Runrig’s Ridge label, his latest solo album Angels From The Ashes appeared in 2004.
