Biography
Originating from southern Florida yet based in Montreal, the rapper Bleubird unleashes a flurry of intense rhymes while shifting among an array of personas on the mic, including a clever and sardonic hipster, a nerdcore wordsmith, a wildly humorous performer, and a fervent critic of the establishment. His unconventional musical approach fuses B-boy confidence with indie rock innovation, lending added dimension to his word-focused deliveries. Born Jacques Bruna in 1982 in southern Florida, he first absorbed hip-hop during grade school through 2 Live Crew, Public Enemy, and Tuff Crew. That interest deepened substantially once he reached college in Orlando, FL, where immersion in a thriving underground community led him to host open mic sessions and experiment with multiple groups. He later relocated to Canada both to distance himself from family disapproval of his rap ambitions and to remain nearer to Endemik Music. With label owner Scott Da Ros at the helm, Endemik issued several of Bleubird’s eccentric projects, among them the official debut Sloppy Doctor in 2003, the vinyl EP Pilgrim of St. Zotique in 2006, and the full-length Rip U$a (The Birdfleu) in 2007. Between solo efforts he launched collaborative outfits such as Les Swashbuckling Napoleons and Gunporn, the latter yielding Pretty Pretty Please in 2004 after forming with international artists met during a European tour.
