Blue Blood

Hunter Morris, the Athens, Georgia singer and songwriter formerly of Gift Horse, established Blue Blood as his newest solo outlet once that earlier group dissolved. In the wake of the split Morris withdrew into the quiet discipline of fly-fishing—an activity he both pursues and teaches—while composing fresh songs. Once the growing stack of material suggested the need for a full band, he recruited multi-instrumentalist Hank Sullivant (MGMT, Kuroma, the Whigs), drummer J.J. Bower (Dead Confederate, Battle Tapes), and keyboardist Dave Spivey. The result was the roots-based, psych-tinged album This Is the Life, issued in 2014 on This Is American Music and recalling the work of Elf Power, Mikal Cronin, Neutral Milk Hotel, Kurt Vile, and War on Drugs.
