Biography
Hailing from Massachusetts, the musical venture known as BoyWithUke centers on Charley Yang, who handles vocals, songwriting, and production while wielding a ukulele and sharp pop instincts. Influences from Twenty One Pilots, Milky Chance, and Dominic Fike shaped his approach, and he initially gained traction on social platforms while remaining anonymous behind an opaque face shield fitted with LED eyes. Two independent projects preceded his 2022 deal with Republic, under which Serotonin Dreams achieved international chart placement. After Lucid Dreams surfaced in 2023, Yang disclosed both his appearance and real name, then issued the 2024 single “Can You Feel It?”
Working entirely in his home studio on a media tablet, he crafts confessional, lo-fi pop tracks that layer his signature uke against pitched vocal harmonies and electronic beats. Melatonin Dreams arrived as his 2021 debut album, followed by a run of singles plus the EP Trouvaille and the album Fever Dreams, whose tracklist featured the viral “Two Moons.” Mainstream notice came via the 2021 single “Toxic,” whose streaming numbers drew Republic’s interest and secured BoyWithUke a roster spot. Additional 2022 successes included “Long Drives” and the Blackbear-assisted “IDGAF,” both of which landed on the third full-length, Serotonin Dreams. Early 2023 brought the three-song EP Antisocial, while October saw the fourth and concluding entry in the Dreams sequence, Lucid Dreams. Shortly afterward, Yang showed his face publicly for the first time inside the “Homesick” music video and, in a follow-up social-media post, confirmed his given name. The standalone 2024 release “Can You Feel It?” carried forward his momentum.
