Brent Cobb possesses a mellifluous vocal timbre paired with an ostensibly effortless approach, allowing him to blend various vintage roots elements into his distinctive take on country music. His drawl from Georgia highlights soulful roots, while his compositions incorporate elements of folk bathed in sunlight, country-folk fusions, and relaxed rock rhythms. The 2016 release Shine on Rainy Day marked his entry onto a major label, with production handled by cousin Dave, providing a platform for his Southern-infused hybrid approach. This effort garnered a nomination at the 2018 Grammy Awards in the Best Americana Album category. Over time, Cobb has explored diverse territories, ranging from the contemporary gospel expressions found on the 2022 project And Now, Let's Turn to Page… to the soulful funk of Southern Star in 2023.

His relation to Nashville-based producer Dave Cobb, known for work with Shooter Jennings and Sturgill Simpson, led to an initial attempt at prominence via a brief period in Los Angeles. There, the 2006 album No Place Left to Leave emerged under Dave's production. Subsequently, fellow Georgian Luke Bryan, for whom Cobb had served as an opening act, persuaded a move to Nashville. Success followed as a songwriter on Music Row after securing a publishing agreement with Carnival Music. By 2011, compositions appeared with artists including Luke Bryan, Kellie Pickler, Eli Young Band, and Miranda Lambert. Personal recordings continued with a self-titled EP issued in 2012, alongside opening performances for Blake Shelton and additional prominent country acts. Reuniting with cousin Dave produced the sophomore effort Shine on Rainy Day, issued via Elektra in 2016, featuring a warm and minimal aesthetic reminiscent of Kris Kristofferson alongside Jesse Winchester.

The 2018 Grammy nomination for Best Americana Album arrived around the completion of follow-up Providence Canyon. This lush endeavor, again crafted with Dave, evoked the 1970s spirit and attained a number two position on Billboard's Heatseekers chart.

Relocating from Nashville back to his Georgia origins occurred post-Providence Canyon, accompanied by exiting Low Country Sound/Elektra. Ol' Buddy Records became the new home, where Brad Cook—recognized for collaborations with Bon Iver and Waxahatchee—was enlisted to helm the 2020 release Keep 'Em on They Toes, noted for its mellow adventurousness.

An automobile collision following Keep 'Em on They Toes involved Cobb's infant son in the vehicle—the child remained unharmed, yet Cobb sustained a broken collarbone. This event prompted a gospel recording, once more involving cousin Dave at RCA Studio A, yielding And Now, Let's Turn to Page… during January 2022.

Southern Star emerged in 2023 after sessions at Capricorn Sound Studios, the site of numerous Allman Brothers Band classics, distributed via Ol' Buddy Records in partnership with Thirty Tigers. Primarily utilizing musicians from Georgia and self-produced by Cobb, the album paid homage to the funky essence of 1970s southern rock.
