Biography
James B. Stringer records as Brood Ma, a London artist fixated on virtual reality, cyberpunk, and rave culture. His fractured productions pull from psy-trance, industrial, ghetto house, and further high-impact dance styles, forging rapid, constantly mutating sonic assemblages. Stringer co-founded the Quantum Natives collective alongside Yearning Kru and DJWWWW; the group’s site operates as an interactive, map-based portal that connects to videos, downloads, and further media. The project first surfaced in 2012 with the limited cassette Fission on U.K. label Mantile. After Quantum Natives launched in 2013, the collective offered Brood Ma’s Populous as a free download the next year, followed promptly by the remix set Repopulous. Hemlock Recordings, a dubstep imprint, pressed Populous to vinyl in 2015, after which Brood Ma moved to Tri Angle for Daze, his strongest release to date, which arrived in 2016.
