Biography
Caecilie Norby brings an uncommon selection of material to her performances as a vocalist, encompassing both longstanding jazz standards and selected pop numbers from recent decades such as "Spinning Wheel" and "The Look of Love." Her powerful delivery and emerging artistic approach suggest considerable promise ahead. Although born in Denmark to parents deeply engaged in classical music, she first built her career in rock, cutting a record with Frontline during 1985 before serving from 1986 through 1993 as one member of the duo One Two. At the same time she made periodic appearances with a modest jazz ensemble at local venues, where pianist Niels Lan Doky heard her and subsequently proposed producing an initial jazz project. Drawing her strongest inspiration from the early work of Nancy Wilson, Caecilie Norby went on to document two sessions that Blue Note issued within her home country.
