Biography
Pennsylvania-born Catherine Feeny first pursued her singer-songwriter ambitions after moving to Los Angeles, where she became active in the local folk community and drew inspiration from Gillian Welch. That period yielded a self-titled 2003 album of similar acoustic material. A subsequent friendship with British musician Sebastian Rogers prompted her relocation to England, where she reconnected with pop songcraft. She cut her second album, Hurricane Glass, at Rogers’ studio and established a permanent home in Norfolk. Blending bright pop melodies with folk balladry, the record appeared in the U.K. in June 2006. Its piano-driven single “Mr. Blue” earned attention in the United States after placements in an episode of The O.C. and the film Running with Scissors, leading to a recording contract with EMI Records. Feeny moved back to America in 2008, settling in Oregon to begin work on a third album while joining a group of Los Angeles-based songwriters for that fall’s Hotel Café Tour.
