Biography
Berlin-based trio Cavern of Anti-Matter construct their Krautrock-indebted sound from treated instruments and experimental electronics. Multi-instrumentalist Tim Gane and drummer Joe Dilworth, who had previously recorded and performed for years in the critically lauded kosmische pop group Stereolab, established the project during the winter of 2012 alongside synth player and general electronic manipulator Holger Zapf. Their debut mini-album Blood Drums was captured entirely in mono onto analog tape before undergoing digital processing to simulate stereo. Issued on double-vinyl by the Grautag label in 2013, it was joined that same year by the 12" You're an Art Soul EP on Associated Electronic Recordings. Two additional brief releases followed in 2014—Interlude Music and Total Availability & the Private Future—before the band delivered its first full-length album, Void Beats/Invocation Trex, in 2016; the record included guest appearances by Mouse on Mars' Jan St. Werner, Sonic Boom, and Deerhunter's Bradford Cox. On the freewheeling 2018 set Hormone Lemonade the musicians expanded upon hours of rhythm experiments that Zapf had tracked on the Takron Z3 and Z2, which Gane subsequently shaped into initial frameworks.
