In 1969 victory at the Trampolin A La Fama contest, rendered in English as springboard to stardom, marked the start of Cecilia Barraza’s professional path. She delivers the Costeño style, a form rooted in black Peruvian communities, by fusing Afro-Peruvian traditions with contemporary popular songs. To strengthen her standing in the regional folk circuit she also performed as part of the threesome El Clan Barraza alongside her brothers Carlos and Miguel.
