Biography
Allene Norton, performing under the alias Cellars while based in Los Angeles, specializes in electronic synth pop modeled on 1980s conventions. Born in Seattle, Washington, she developed an early immersion in music that led to proficiency on both piano and guitar before age 13. Once secondary school ended, Norton turned to original songwriting and began performing those pieces at coffeehouses. Training in audio engineering and remixing followed, abilities she later channeled into crafting her own synth-focused recordings. The 2013 relocation to Los Angeles spurred formation of the Cellars outlet to channel her longstanding admiration for vintage pop from the 1970s and 1980s, particularly the work of Madonna, Kate Bush, Yaz, and Human League. Her debut full-length release, Phases, arrived in 2016 with production credited to Ariel Pink.
