Biography
Born in India, Chin Injeti relocated to Canada when he was five years old. Early musical exposure came through his father’s renditions of Telugu songs, a language from South India, though his tastes soon broadened. After a polio diagnosis left him in a wheelchair for an extended period, he immersed himself in sounds ranging from Motown through hard rock. He eventually picked up bass and guitar, ultimately finding his deepest connection in hip-hop. During the early 1990s he worked as a producer for Maestro Fresh Wes and additional Canadian rap acts. In 1994 he became a member of the Canadian hip-hop and soulful trio Bass Is Base, whose other participants included Ivana Santilli. The ensemble collected multiple Juno Awards along with MuchMusic video awards. Following the trio’s 1997 dissolution, Injeti resumed production and songwriting alongside Craig Northey and Dave Kershaw. His first solo album, Day Dreaming, appeared in 2001. Worldwide touring brought him onstage with Busta Rhymes, the Roots, Ziggy Marley, A Tribe Called Quest, and further artists. He also supplied a remix of the Barenaked Ladies track “Pinch Me.”
