Born on 5 December 1962 in Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA, singer-songwriter Conway has always preserved his hallmark reliance on acoustic guitar, whether working alone or with a group. Although American by birth, he gained notice only after teaming with musicians based in the UK. His recording career opened with the 1995 album Sounds Like Rain, after which he maintained a steady flow of solo releases that include the notable 1996 set Flying Home and 2001’s Live!. Additional albums have appeared in partnership with Dan Britton, Chloe Singer and Judith Silver. While acoustic folk remains his primary mode, Conway has repeatedly stepped outside that frame, exploring world music with the bands Re-Orient and Jazz Orient, jazz on 1999’s Breathtaking, electronic textures on 2003’s Contact Light, and new age atmospheres with the same year’s Ayurveda. His calendar has also encompassed sideman work with numerous performers, among them a stretch in Vikki Clayton’s band.
