Biography
Christian Lalama, a Canadian vocalist drawn to pop and R&B, first attracted notice in 2015 when he began uploading cover songs to the internet. Atlantic soon signed him, leading to the release of his debut single, “Tic Toc,” in 2018.
Lalama entered the world in St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada, in 2003 and was raised in a household steeped in music; his father performed with regional groups, his grandfather played saxophone, and his uncle Mark Lalama worked as an instrumentalist and producer. He began piano lessons at age four and quickly started delighting relatives and friends with renditions of songs by Billy Joel and Elton John. At ten he won a radio competition that placed him at the keyboards alongside the Kid Mitchell Band, after which he toured with Minipop Kids, delivering age-appropriate versions of current pop hits. During this period he also shared his own recordings online, steadily growing an audience through viral clips—including a cover of Luis Fonsi’s “Despacito” that surpassed ten million views. Comparisons to fellow Canadian pop star Justin Bieber helped bring him to the attention of Atlantic’s digital scouting team. The label signed him, and in August 2018 he released the ISM Beats- and S1-produced single “Tic Toc.” A follow-up, “FrFr,” arrived that December.
