Christopher Owens crafts direct pop compositions that convey candid and exposed revelations of his personal conflicts. As a co-founder of the indie pair Girls, he disbanded the group suddenly during 2012 to pursue individual endeavors, blending the group's innocent appeal and melodic hooks with the essence of 1970s adult contemporary pop and mellow rock.

Born in Miami, Florida during 1979 to parents tied to the Children of God faith community, Owens experienced extensive travel throughout his youth before settling in San Francisco at age 25. In the Bay Area he became deeply immersed in substance use while performing in Holy Shit with Ariel Pink and Matt Fishbeck.

Beginning in 2007, Owens and Chet "JR" White developed the project that would become Girls, which issued an EP and two albums spanning 2009 to 2011. Owens departed the duo in July 2012, pointing to repeated lineup instability as the chief motivation for launching a solo career.

His first solo album, Lysandre, emerged on Fat Possum Records in 2013, followed by A New Testament the next year and Chrissybaby Forever in 2015, all on the same label. Although he participated in the band Curls for a period, solo output remained largely quiet for several subsequent years.

Collaborative writing with White, initially aimed at new Girls material, instead produced the songs for Owens' fourth solo album. Released in October 2024 on True Panther—the label that originally issued Girls' recordings—this spiritually focused effort carries the title I Wanna Run Barefoot Through Your Hair.
