CIV

CIV derives its name from founder and frontman Anthony Civocelli, fusing classic hardcore with an optimistic worldview and memorable grooves inspired by Adam Ant. Civocelli had previously performed with New York’s Gorilla Biscuits, a band that issued one album before disbanding in 1992. After opening a tattoo studio on Long Island, he recruited bassist Arthur, guitarist Charlie, and drummer Sammy—members who elect to withhold their surnames—to launch the new project. Occasional stage appearances in gold-lamé suits and powder-blue leisure suits helped the group land a recording contract, yielding the 1995 debut Set Your Goals. Thirteen Day Getaway arrived three years later.
