The Hope Conspiracy formed as a Boston-based punk outfit whose sound draws deeply from the foundational American hardcore approach of outfits such as Minor Threat and Black Flag. The group surfaced in 2000 via its Equal Vision debut album Cold Blue, then delivered two additional full-length releases along with one EP prior to entering a 14-year break that began in 2009. During that period the members concentrated on separate endeavors including All Pigs Must Die, Hesitation Wounds, Lies, Paint It Black, Spiral Heads, and Ways Away, only to regroup in 2023 for the EP Confusion/Chaos/Misery.

Its aggressive hardcore punk style aligns with peers such as Supersleuth, Snapcase, Ten Yard Fight, and Time Flies. Established in 1999, the five-piece issued a self-titled EP followed later the same year by the full-length Cold Blue on Equal Vision. In 2001 the long-unavailable self-titled EP was remastered, expanded with two bonus tracks, and reissued while the band shared stages with Converge and Sick of It All. Several personnel shifts later, the 2002 lineup featuring vocalist Kevin Baker, guitarist Aaron Lisi, bassist Jonas Feinberg, and drummer Jared Shavelson resumed songwriting and tracked a new album. Endnote appeared before year’s end, after which the Hope Conspiracy toured alongside From Autumn to Ashes and Boy Sets Fire and then paused activity in 2004 so its players could pursue outside projects. The band resurfaced in spring 2006 on Deathwish Inc. with the limited-edition 7" “Hang Your Cross,” which led into the September arrival of the third album Death Knows Your Name. That release introduced guitarist Tim Cossar (American Nightmare, Bars) on record for the first time and welcomed back guitarist Neeraj Kane (Suicide File, Holy Roman Empire). Produced by Kurt Ballou, the EP True Nihilist surfaced in 2009 before the group again halted operations. Motivated by the social and political tensions of the 2020s, the Hope Conspiracy reconvened in 2023 for the Confusion/Chaos/Misery EP, once more enlisting Ballou as producer.
