Biography
Originally formed in Buffalo, New York, the progressive emocore quintet Snapcase launched with vocalist Daryl Taberski, guitarists Scott Dressler and Jon Salemi, bassist Bob Whiteside, and drummer Tim Redmond. The group quickly cultivated a devoted following inside the resurgent straight-edge wing of the hardcore community, prompting a deal with the Victory imprint. Their first album, Lookinglasself, arrived in the opening months of 1995, while the EP Steps surfaced before the year closed. Progression Through Unlearning marked their sophomore LP in 1997, and Designs for Automotion arrived as the third full-length in the first half of 2000. Brian McTernan handled production duties on the 2002 release End Transmission, framed as a concept album depicting a futuristic society; afterward the band logged a two-month run of dates alongside the stylistically kindred Boy Sets Fire. The following year brought Bright Flashes, a collection that gathered leftover tracks from the prior album alongside assorted covers and remixes. After fourteen years together, Snapcase dissolved in 2005; by then the founding core of Taberski and Salemi had been augmented by guitarist Frank Vicario, bassist Dustin Perry, and drummer Ben Lythberg. Their farewell appearance took place on January 22 at Buffalo’s Sphere.
