Originally formed by five individuals seeking casual activity in their Philadelphia suburb, Turmoil had little sense of the trajectory ahead. Their affinity for East Coast hardcore bands such as Agnostic Front, the Cro-Mags, and Sick of it All shaped the group, which came together in 1992 and saw its debut EP, "Who Says Time Heals All Wounds?," issued right away in Europe. Extensive road work across the Midwest and East Coast followed without delay, paving the way for the full-length "From Bleeding Hands" in 1994. Repeated performances throughout the United States, including shows alongside Madball, Earth Crisis, and Snapcase, steadily expanded their audience ahead of the 1997 release of "Anchor." The consistent roster of Jon Gula on vocals, Jonathan Hodges and James Winters on guitar, Wayne Miller on bass, and Jon Pushnik on drums remained intact when the band signed with Century Media Records in 1998, leading to the issuance of "The Process Of..." the next year.
